Week19

Commencement of the week 19 observes more changes on the exterior of the body. Dry, flaky skin may form as the metabolism and blood volume increase. Tendency to dehydrate and sensitivity to heat will increase.

The baby’s brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch, arms and legs are in proportion to each other and the rest of her body now. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on the baby’s skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

The baby is about the size of an heirloom tomato, length is 6 inches and weighs 8 ½ ounce.

Lower abdominal pain, skin changes are some of the common symptoms seen during this week.
